Expanding Gorongosa, a rare conservation treasure

Gorongosa National Park is a conservation treasure that was almost lost forever, and widely recognized as one of the most successful conservation efforts in Africa. As outside pressure from poaching and development mount in the region, we worked with our partners to expand the protection of this landscape by over 1 million acres.

In addition, a new Marine Protected Area and over 50,000 acres of mangroves are a part of this expansive project, protecting a vital habitat for the highest concentration of aquatic birds in the country.

Protecting the Leuser Ecosystem

Protecting the Leuser Ecosystem

The Leuser Ecosystem is the last place on Earth where orangutans, elephants and tigers coexist in the wild. This landscape spans over 6 million acres and houses the largest intact forest remaining on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. It also contains a range of diverse habitats, from coastal peat swamps to high mountain tops, allowing for many unique and diverse species to thrive.

With Rainforest Trust and their local partner Forum Konservasi Leuser (FKL), we are working to safeguard 4,000 acres of land. Through acquiring this land, FKL will extend a protected wildlife corridor vital to threatened species.

Fighting deforestation in the Peruvian Andes

Fighting deforestation in the Peruvian Andes

We have worked with our partners to establish the San Pedro de Chonta and Monte Azul de Yanajanca Regional Conservation Areas which will safeguard 625,006 acres in urgent need of protection from deforestation.

This is of great importance because the nearby Huallaga River Valley and Monzon Valley are among the most heavily deforested zones in the Peruvian Tropical Andes and the destruction will soon spread without formal protection. These new protected areas will preserve vital wildlife corridors and provide the final critical step in closing large gaps of a 2.5-million-acre network of parks and community reserves.

Rainforests are being conserved all over the world thanks to you. With your help, we are protecting endangered species, supporting local communities, and saving trees that store C02e and help reverse climate change. We are collaborating with Rainforest Trus and leading NGOs to achieve our shared goal of conserving 30% of the planet by 2030.
